Oxytocin is a fairly recent scientific discovery of a polypeptide hormone that is naturally produced by the pituitary gland. Oxytocin is a hormone found in many mammals, including humans. Oxytocin is released during orgasm in both sexes. In the brain, oxytocin is involved in social recognition and bonding, and might be involved in the formation of trust between people.”

The conclusion is that not only did Oxytocin affect risk-aversion (Kosfeld 2005), but that nasally-administered Oxytocin spray has also been reported to reduce fear.

Oxytocin also has anti-stress properties. Oxytocin reduces blood pressure and cortisol levels, increases tolerance to pain and reduces anxiety.
